Our Trip: 02 nights/03 days all inclusive trip on Jungle Plan. The trip starts from Kolkata and ends at Kolkata. Pick up from and drop back at your doorsteps. There is no compulsory fixed departure dates. Visitors can decide dates of their own choice. Sunderbans remains open 365 days a year unless there is the Tiger Census, which occurs once in every two years usually in December- January for 08 days.

 

Trip Cost includes
Escorted Surface transfers by Non air conditioned car (AC Supplement is possible on extra payment), cruises and river transfers by our own motorized boat, stay at the ethnic cottage of our Jungle Camp for 02 nights, all the meals, country boat rides, guided village tour, jungle entrance fees, services of our local guide cum naturalist. A local cultural show (Dukhe Yatra or Bonobibi Yatra) can be experienced in the evening on extra payment.

Trip Cost excludes
Kolkata Accommodation, Camera Fees, Soft and hard drinks, Air/rail passage, Cultural Programme, Tips gratuity and insurance and any expenses not mentioned in the “Cost includes” section.

The project
Sunderbans Jungle Camp on Bali island is a participatory Community Tourism demonstration Project for the rehabilitation of the poachers-turned-conservationists, sustainable development of the local community and conservation of the wildlife and flora of this unique eco system. This model project has been implemented by Help Tourism and is supported by Sunderbans Tiger Reserve, World Wide Fund for Nature-India(West Bengal State Office),Bali Nature and Wildlife Conservation Society, Bali Eco Development Committee and Wildlife Protection Society of India.

Ours is a small low-impact Jungle Camp which is environmentally-sensitive and liked by those who have interest to explore the infinite bio-diversity and uniqueness of ecosystem of Sunderbans through a participatory, authentic, knowledgeable, meaningful, intimate, mutually-educative, responsible encounters with the local people and their culture and livelihood. Your visits are our support and contribute to a great extent to our small initiative to support the sustainable development of the local community and the conservation of the forest and the great cats.

Community Development Activities of the camp
In order to assist the local community to have a better quality of life we have introduced host of development projects such as Free Medical Camps, Tailoring training for the ladies Self help groups, Community Sanitation (Donate a toilet) programme, Education aid to the poor students (Adopt A poor Student) Garments and Medicine Banks, Nature Club movements, Awareness programmes for students and teachers of local schools. These activities are supported by our individual and institutional patrons and agencies and organisations like WWF-India, WPSI, SHIS, Sunderbans Tiger Reserve and co-ordinated by our NGO ACT (Association for Conservation and Tourism) and Bali Nature and Wildlife Conservation Society.

Sunderbans is mysterious, unpredictable , instilling, vast, untamable and perhaps, the last true wild frontier in the Indian sub-continent.

Access
Kolkata-Sonakhali Jetty is connected by good all weather road (approx 100 kms) and a 2 hours interesting drive. Sonakhali to Sunderbans Jungle Camp is a 2.5 hours cruise.

June to September –  Wet and windy. Monsoon cruises are spectacular.

Special Interest
Botany, Ornithology and Ethno-zoology: 180 species of birds including 6 species of Kingfishers, Raptors, Waders, Migratory birds and ducks, Herons and Storks. Other than some 270 legendary Bengal Tigers and Spotted Deers and Wild Bores Sundarbans also boasts of the Largest Estuarine crocodiles, Rhesus monkeys, Water monitors, Reptiles and Amphibians, Turtles and Dolphins. The honey collectors and Fishermen of the land of “HUNGRY TIDE”.
